Pulitzer Prize Recipient Portrayed in the Oscar-winning Film "Spotlight" and Editor at Large at the Boston Globe
Walter V. Robinson, editor at large at the Boston Globe, led the newspaper's Spotlight Team, overseeing its investigation of sexual abuse of children by Catholic priests. That coverage received the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service and was the subject of the movie Spotlight, which won the Academy Award for best picture this year.
At the Globe, he was lead reporter for presidential elections, Middle East bureau chief, city editor, metro editor and roving foreign and national correspondent, reporting on artwork stolen by the Nazis during World War II.
He led the Spotlight Team for seven years. Its investigation found that a decades-long cover-up had shielded nearly 250 priests in the Boston area and sparked similar disclosures around the world.
Robinson returned to the newspaper in 2014 after seven years as distinguished professor of journalism at Northeastern University.
He is a 1974 graduate of Northeastern and served for four years in the U.S. Army. Robinson is co-author of the 2002 book Betrayal: Crisis in the Catholic Church.
