Event Details
96X presents X FEST featuring The 1975, Fitz & The Tantrums, Broods and The Strumbellas at the Constant Center on Monday, June 13 at 6:00pm.
Hailing from Manchester, U.K., the 1975 managed to combine the dark and youthful themes of sex, love, and fear with ethereal alt-rock music. Their self-titled debut -- recorded with producer Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, Foals) -- was released in 2013. A number one album in the U.K., The 1975 also earned the band attention in the States, where it reached number 28 on the Billboard 200. In 2016, the 1975 returned with their sophomore full-length album, I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It.
After the self-released 2009 EP Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1, Fitz and The Tantrums found themselves appearing on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic,” touring with Maroon 5 and recording their full-length debut, Pickin’ Up the Pieces. The album, which was awarded three-and-a-half stars by Rolling Stone, spent 73 weeks on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, peaking at No. 1. The band was named a “You Oughta Know” artist by VH1 and views for the video for the hit single “MoneyGrabber” surpassed three million.
Broods released their debut album, Evergreen, on 22 August 2014, which debuted at No. 1 on the New Zealand album chart. They won as Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the 2014 New Zealand Music Awards, while also being nominated for Single of the Year, and the People's Choice Award. At the 2015 New Zealand Music Awards, they won Album of the Year for Evergreen, Best Group, Best Pop Album, and Radio Airplay Record of the Year for "Mother & Father".
The Strumbellas issued their eponymous debut EP in 2009, followed by a series of high-profile shows and festival gigs. Their first full-length outing, 2013’s My Father and the Hunter, landed a Juno nomination in the Roots & traditional Album of the Year category, and their Six Shooter Records-issued sophomore long player, We Still Move on Dance Floors, earned a second nomination in the category, as well as their first win.
